INTRODUCTION OF FARM CHRISTIANA
COME AND AND EXPERIENCE A HUNTING TRIP LIKE NO OTHER AT CHRISTIANA FARM
During a members meeting in 2015 the custodians of Christiana made the decision to invest in restoring the farm and its wildlife to its former glory. Years of unsustainable hunting in Africa has decreased both trophy and body size of the wildlife. The practice of hunting only the biggest and best has resulted in the top-quality breeding rams getting scarcer and scarcer. We decided that this beautiful but water scarce part of Africa should be farmed in a way which ensures that our children will inherit better animals and vegetation farmed in accordance with what nature allows.
We started by following a systematic approach stretching over many years to remove intruder species of vegetation that are not naturally found in the Kalahari and has been imported to the region over generations. We were carefully guided and supported by the scientist dr. Louis du Pisani in this process. We then scoured neighbouring Namibia and all parts of South Africa to procure trophy quality breeding rams and females that greatly expanded the genetic quality and diversity of our resident herds.
Managing a hunting farm with breeding herds on it turned out much more challenging than we thought. We were forced to downscale the hunting for a couple of years and to focus on the breeding projects. It is with great anticipation and excitement that we have finally made the decision that we are ready to welcome hunters to enjoy this beautiful part of Africa and all its creatures.
